FESTA MAJOR DE GRÀCIA

The Gràcia neighbourhood is completely different than the rest of Barcelona. It's a city within a city. Literally. Because until 1897 it wasn't even formally part of Barcelona. Walking through the streets, you notice that. It feels different, looks different even. To celebrate their neighbourhood the people of Gràcia hold an annual festival. The streets are decorated, there are activities and performances all week long and everyone leaves their houses to join in on the festivities. The best thing about all this, is that there are barely any tourists. The streets are filled with locals and you can imagine that I looked extremely out of place on my Nikes with my camera in hand. Oh well, at least I got nice pictures now.
